This Term in Year 4 our topic is rainforests. We will link our Reading and Writing to our Geography topic and explore rainforests around the world. In DT we will make 3D models of a rainforest capturing the different layers.
In English, we will continue to develop and extend our speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. We will focus on learning the spelling, grammar and punctuation required at this level, which the children will showcase in their writing. We love a good fronted adverbial. We will write information texts about rainforests and an adventure story involving the rainforest and the people and animals that live there.
In Science we will investigate Animals including Humans and explore how animals including humans need the right types and amounts of nutrition and that they cannot make their own food. We will find out how they get nutrition from what they eat. We will also identify that humans and some animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement.
In maths, we will be looking at decimals, which extends and develops the learning that we have done with fractions. The children have enjoyed their maths learning journey, understanding equivalent fractions and how to add and subtract them. In addition to decimals, the children will develop their understanding of money and time.
The children continue to enjoy their outdoor learning time and PE.
This term, we will be going on a trip linked to our topic. We hope to persuade the Head teachers to send us to Brazil but this may not happen. Failing that, we will settle for somewhere closer to home and somewhat less tropical.
