The teachers in Year 4 are Mr Cotton (4FC) and Miss Duffin (4SD). We are supported in Year 4 by Miss Wright.
Topics This Term
In English, we will be immersing ourselves in Spain of the 1930s with the book Toro! Toro! By Michael Morpurgo. This links to art in which we will be learning about Pablo Picasso and his style of painting. Watch out for an art exhibition at the end of term.
Number, Calculation, Measures & Problem Solving
This term, our Maths learning focusses on division and multiplication. After this, we will delve into the world of fractions! We will continue our new Maths guidance called White Rose, which promotes learning through physical objects, pictorial representations and abstract numbers.
This term, our topic title is It’s a state! Does it matter? In other words, we will be investigating solids, liquids and gases and how some can change from one to another. Without being precipitous, we will also be looking at the water cycle.
In PSHE and RE, the children will be learning about other belief systems and how to respect other people’s opinions and feelings. This term, we continue to learn about Judaism and the Passover. Our theme in PSHE is dreams and goals. Oh to win the lottery…
IT this half term is about e safety and the children will be learning this entirely online.
Outdoor learning will continue this term. The weather outside is frightful this time of year and because the area where they have their lessons can be muddy and cold, we would remind you that the children should wear warm and suitable clothing. An extra pair of socks goes a long way!
Reading at Home
Thank you to those of you who are hearing your child read regularly at home. Asking them questions about what they have just read is incredibly helpful and can help them to understand texts better.
Homework will be set at the beginning of term. The children will be given a list of things they can do at home. We encourage the children to choose a range of activities e.g. maths, English and DT.
Spelling lists will be sent home regularly and tests given weekly. Please encourage your children to spend time learning these.
Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school each day. These can stay in the classroom and be filled up in school.
Studies show that children need 9 hours sleep every night. Thank you to those of you who make sure that your child is sleeping for long enough. It really makes a difference to their ability to concentrate in lessons.
Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. This includes a blue jumper or cardigan and plain black shoes or black trainers with no logos or other colours on them. Boots are not part of our school uniform.
Jewellery and Nail Varnish
Please ensure that your child does not wear jewellery other than stud earrings and that they remove all nail varnish before coming to school. They will be asked to remove or cover earrings for PE lessons.
