Topics This Term

Ravishing Rainforests

This term, we will be exploring the wonderful, lush and exuberant rain forests of the world, and introducing the children to their exotic flora and fauna and climate.  We will experience what it is like to be in a virtual rainforest (goggles provided and no jabs needed) and we hope to visit the world-renowned Kew Gardens.

Our class story is

Number, Calculation, Measures & Problem Solving

This term, we will be learning about our money system, and how to tell the time in both the 12 and 24-hour formats.  In addition, we shall be learning statistics and, on average, most children tend to enjoy this!

Our topic this term is Humans and Other Animals.  Wil learn all about the digestive system, teeth and food chains.

In PSHE, the children will be learning about forming bonds with people and exploring themes and trust and respect.  In Term 6, a letter will be sent out regarding the topics covered.  In RE, we will be exploring the theme of having a commitment to a higher power and exploring this through a study of Jewish practices.

In IT, we will be learning how to distinguish between fake and real news. Believe it or not…

This term, we will be strapping on the plus fours, diamond patterned jumpers and taking a caddy (but not for tea) to learn how to play golf.

Reading at Home

Thank you to those of you who are hearing your child read regularly at home.  Asking them questions about what they have just read is incredibly helpful and can help them to understand texts better.

Homework is set termly. The children are given the option of choosing three pieces of homework to complete. We ask that one of these pieces be a Maths homework and one be a Literacy homework.  We very much enjoy the creative homework that the children have created.  One option will be practicing their times tables on TT Rockstars. For those who wish, this may be an additional fourth piece of homework.

Spelling lists will be sent home regularly and tests given weekly.  Please encourage your children to spend time learning these.

Water Bottles

Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle in school each day. These can stay in the classroom and be filled up in school.

Studies show that children need 9 hours sleep   every night. Thank you to those of you who make sure that your child is sleeping for long enough. It really makes a difference to their ability to concentrate in lessons.

Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. This includes a blue jumper or cardigan and plain black shoes or black trainers with no logos or other colours on them. Boots are not part of our school uniform.  As the children have limited hanging space for their things, could we ask that they do not bring in large bags to hang up unless it’s Thursday when we have swimming.

Jewellery and Nail Varnish

Please ensure that your child does not wear jewellery other than stud earrings and that they remove all nail varnish before coming to school. They will be asked to remove or cover earrings for PE lessons.
